Dr C H Krishnamurthi Rao
Dr C H Krishnamurthi Rao, Founder Chairman of the Group, was born in Coimbatore and graduated in Mechanical Engineering from PSG College of Engineering under University of Madras. He began his career at Everest Engineering as a Site Engineer, working across various cities. At the age of 54, he pursued a Ph.D. in Technology Management at BITS Pilani. He was a qualified Professional Engineer (P.E) and was awarded Fellowship (FNAE) from the Indian National Academy of Engineering.
An Entrepreneur Par Excellence:
With over four decades of research experience in energy conservation, water management, and life sciences, Dr Rao positioned the Group as a global technology leader. Despite resistance, he introduced innovative and challenging technologies that became trendsetters in the industry.
His farsightedness, perseverance, and clean-green commitment laid the foundation for CCAL’s success. He firmly believed all businesses should promote environmental well-being, energy conservation, and the betterment of society.

1985
Introduced Membrane Technology to the Indian chlor-alkali industry, eliminating mercury usage and enhancing energy efficiency.
1989
Patented a process to recover barium sulphate from solid waste, reducing waste by 30%.
2003
World’s first chlor-alkali plant to use Ultrafiltration membrane for brine clarification, saving 28 MT of cellulose annually.
2004
Implemented Ultrafiltration for wastewater recycling, reducing effluent volume.
2005
First in India to separate sodium sulphate using green technology, minimizing toxic barium chloride use.
2007
Installed HCl synthesis plant with heat recovery, earning 4,600 carbon credits and saving water.
2011
Developed patented chlorine containment system (FENPS) — the first of its kind globally.
2012
Patented soda ash production from flue gas, reducing 250 tCO2/year emissions.
2013
First in India to conduct a carbon footprint study in chlor-alkali sector. Achieved 1.93 tCO2/MT in 2021-22.
2015
Introduced enclosed solar evaporation for ETP-RO wastewater.
2017
Patented technology to convert brine sludge into bricks/blocks, eliminating solid waste disposal.
2018
First chlor-alkali company in India to assess biodiversity and carbon sequestration potential on campus.
2021
Commissioned a 2 MLD seawater desalination plant — Puducherry’s first to use secondary treated effluent water.
2023
Developed and patented a process to reduce trace iodide in brine, a first among chloro-alkali industries.
